Before I tell you about that epic moment, let me give you a brief background. I had decided to learn to code so that I could personalize my Weebly website. The restrictions of the Weebly templates restricted my creativity in website design. When I wrote the company, the gentleman who responded mentioned I could only adjust items and formats if I knew HTML/CSS coding. Thus, I set out on my quest. This quest is Project Code.
It has been several weeks of research since I started Project Code. I had collected websites on Diigo about coding. Last week I even learned how HTML code was put together. Even though it had felt like all research and no real proof of progress, no I continued what I was doing. So this week, I (light bulb and “bing bing bing!”) figured out how to change the color of the text in the upper right header and drop down menu! I know you cannot see my incredibly excited reaction to learning this, but please know I was celebrating my own learning. I did not have anyone I could immediately talk to face to face, but I did call and text quite a few friends and family members. I even tweeted about it. Now, that’s saying something about this introvert!
Additional Learning (not quite as epic but still valid and important)
One other Project Code learning experience of the night was making Flappy Code via www.code.org. This type of coding was using Blockly. I remember seeing the colors and shapes of Blockly a few months back when my friend showed me two neat robots named Bo (now Dash) and Yana (now Dot) that can be programmed to move and do various tasks. If you have not checked them out, take a peek at Wonder Workshop (formerly Play-i). They look pretty amazing to me!
