This is a post to answer a question my principal asked me recently. He was browsing through my website and wondering why I chose to learn about coding. He wondered how I would use it in my classroom and what I do. Where would this learning "get" me? I gave a response but continued to ponder that question throughout the day. I chose to learn about coding because I was very curious to how all the computer and mobile device "stuff" I use works. I like knowing the details and now I think I can tinker with a bit more than just my Weebly website. Learning a bit of code helped me start to solve the problem of "locked in" website design. I now can adapt it more for how I want it to look. Learning code has taken me to the back end of apps, websites, and more. While I don't want to "quit my day job," I definitely will intertwine what I've learned into my work. Learning to code has been about learning a new language and opening my eyes to a new field and potential for conversations with people I never could communicate with about this before. Now, what do I plan to do with it specifically? Look for my last (for now) reflective post coming up here shortly.
